Help Us Build Roofs of Hope

More than 2 million houses in the Philippines were destroyed by Typhoon Odette last December, just a week before Christmas. Out of this number, 425,000 were completely destroyed.

As of March 25, more than 5,000 families still remain displaced in different regions. The ongoing campaign period for local elections has affected the disaster response and recovery activities, which could prolong the suffering of these families.

Last December 26, we at Channel of Hope Foundation went to Southern Leyte and stayed there for four days. We assisted those living in the areas that were badly hit by the typhoon. We also brought 4,000 meters of tarpaulin and 2,500 kilos of rice to help 500 families.

We are coordinating with some partners in the Visayas region to know their needs and what else can be done. As expected, a lot of houses need to be repaired. While we cannot provide all the needed materials, they can at least have their roofs replaced so they can start living in their homes again.

For this campaign, we would like to purchase 1,000 corrugated metal roofing sheets so the affected families can start anew.

We already contacted Puyat Steel in Cebu, and each gauge 26 sheet costs Php 400.00. They would need to transport these materials to Ormoc pier (which costs Php 25,000.00) where we can pick them up. Then, we will bring them to San Ricardo, Southern Leyte, where some of the neediest and severely affected families reside.
